3 Simple Leg Stretches After a Long Run

After a long run, your legs can feel tight, heavy, and fatigued. A few simple stretches can help you cool down, ease that feeling of tightness, and maintain mobility. Here are three stretches to add to your post-run routine.

1. Standing Calf Stretch
Place your hands against a wall and step one foot back. Keep your back heel down and gently bend your front knee until you feel a stretch through the calf of your back leg. Hold for 20–30 seconds and switch sides.

2. Standing Quad Stretch
Hold onto a wall or other support for balance. Bend one knee and bring your heel toward your glutes, holding your ankle with your hand. Keep your knees close together and gently pull until you feel the stretch along the front of your thigh. Hold for 20–30 seconds on each side.

3. Seated Hamstring Stretch
Sit with one leg extended and the other bent. Keeping your back relatively straight, lean forward toward your extended leg until you feel a gentle stretch behind your thigh. Don't force the movement—hold for 20–30 seconds and switch sides.

If your legs are consistently feeling tight after long runs, stretching at home may not be enough. Book a stretch therapy session at Recover Health and let us help you target the areas that need the most attention.
